For most students (including myself), the moment to explore teacher training programs, is when they have done yoga for a while, love how they feel after a class and are ready to explore more. They can’t wait to deepen their yoga knowledge and advance their yoga practice. Often it isn’t until they actually join program, that they discover that a yoga teacher training can be so much more and for most, life changing experience. Let me highlight 5 key highlights of a yoga teacher training.

It can improve your physical flexibility.

Your physical yoga practice will change during the course of a training. You immerse yourself in daily yoga practices, you learn about the asanas, you will be guided by experienced teachers who will help you to execute the more advanced positions in a proper and safe way.

As a result, your body changes, it becomes more flexible and you can achieve deeper stretches. The benefits are immediately noticeable after just several sessions on how much more flexible one becomes. And the best thing of this entire process is that, if your training is based on the Functional way of Yoga, you get to know your own body, creating body awareness, become familiar with your range of motion and ultimately your physical limitations as well.

It allows you to take your yoga practice to the next level.

Besides deepening your physical practice, you’ll discover that yoga can open you up to a lifetime of learning. There’s no end to the amount of information out there on the topic of yoga.

You develop a deeper understanding of yogic philosophy, the origins and principles. You’ll read century old texts and have intense discussion about it with your fellow trainees. You will realize that you are not alone in issues that you face in daily life. And you may notice at one moment that what you have learned from your yoga practice naturally made its way into your daily life and that you are actually able to embody the principles of the Yamas and Niyamas. It teaches yoga how to take life with grace. You could spend a lifetime learning Yoga and still not know everything. Yoga is less about knowing stuff and more about applying it.

It is path to personal growth

You will discover that yoga philosophy is not just ancient text, but, it can plant seeds for growth. Yoga teaches us that we can’t change our past, but how we react to situations in our lives now has an impact on future events. With this knowledge, participating in yoga teacher training will help you assess what happened and why throughout your life so far, and begin finding coping mechanisms if needed.

This self-reflection allows us to use those experiences as tools for personal growth – not repeating patterns from the past or dwelling on negative things; instead, striving towards positive actions moving forward. Self-development can be a bumpy ride. Tiredness, unexpected emotions and even a sense of being overwhelmed are totally normal when you choose to study something in-depth. A journey of growth and self-discovery is usually not possible without some discomfort. Listen to yourself, remember you’re just at the beginning, and that the best teachers are the ones who have had to learn for themselves first and can pass on the wisdom and experience to others.

It helps you to discover new skills

In a well-rounded training, you will not only discuss topics like yoga asanas, philosophy, the history of yoga, meditation and mindfulness, but you will also learn more about human anatomy (and how to apply this knowledge to your yoga practice), how to effectively sequence & teach a practice, and much more.

The philosophy and history of yoga provide context for the modern-day practice of yoga. It is important for teachers to have knowledge about how yoga came to be in order to teach it effectively. The new knowledge of anatomy, the sequencing etc, will help you to teach a class in a safe and sound way. These new skills can help to become more comfortable standing in front of a group and teach a class to your students. And it can help you to get out of your comfort zone, especially if you are someone who doesn’t prefer to be focus of attention. It is a skill that you can take with you in daily life in other situations as well.

It enables you to meet new people

One of the benefits of a training that I really enjoyed, is that you get to meet new people, to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for yoga. You can learn new things from them, and they can help support you on your yoga journey. You make life-long new friends. Additionally, networking with other teachers can lead to future opportunities, such as finding teaching jobs or learning about upcoming workshops and events. So if you’re looking for an enriching experience that will connect you with others in the yoga community, then look no further than yoga teacher training!

Experience this life changing opportunity yourself

A yoga teacher training is a path to personal growth, enabling you to take your yoga practice to the next level. It helps you develop skills that will have an impact on both your physical and mental health for years to come. Not only does it improve flexibility but also gives you the opportunity of meeting new people who share similar interests as yourself. And finally, we can’t forget about how it improves our quality of life!
